Council Meetings
The Government is being urged to update the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill to allow councils to hold remote and hybrid meetings. This simple change would make local democracy more inclusive, accessible, and future-ready. It would help people with caring responsibilities, disabilities, or busy jobs to serve as councillors, make it easier for residents to follow and take part in council decisions, and save councils time and money. With new local authorities being set up and growing concerns about councillor safety, now is the time to give councils the choice to meet in ways that work best for their communities.
