Victoria Horton, Roade Parish Council
What’s your thoughts and feelings around Northants CALC training for Clerks in general?
I think the training provided by Northants CALC is fundamental for clerks because it is comprehensive and practical. Good training is vital for a clerk’s success, helping them stay updated and grow professionally which adds to the council’s overall performance.
What’s your thoughts and feelings in relation to the Officer Development Framework?
The Officer Development Framework outlines a series of courses for professional development and as such I feel it provides structure, clarity, and a clear path for development, which can be very reassuring, as it lays out the steps needed to progress in the role and ensures that all essential information is provided.
Completing these courses has significantly enhanced my skills and knowledge, leading to a sense of accomplishment and increased job satisfaction. Sometimes it can be challenging to commit the time required whilst working but it’s important to know essential resources are available and support from the council has made a big difference and enabled me to get this far. I have also found these training courses provide opportunities to meet and learn from clerks in different areas, helping to build a professional network.
Why have you completed two stages already and how that makes you feel as a clerk?
So far, I’ve completed the ‘skilled’ section and have a couple more courses booked before I can complete the ‘essential’ and ‘master’ sections. I keep my eye on the NCALC website and book onto any necessary courses as a commitment to my professional development. Each course has provided valuable insights, enabling me to perform my duties more efficiently and effectively. As a deputy clerk, the achievement makes me feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. It has boosted my confidence in my abilities and reinforced my motivation to continue learning and growing in my role. The progress allows me to contribute even more significantly to my role here at Roade Parish Council.
