The New Clerk Development Programme - Discover

Designed specifically for new and aspiring clerks, this four-part programme provides a practical introduction to the clerk's role. Through the Discover, Understand, Deliver and Govern sessions, participants will build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support an effective, compliant and well-run council.

The course runs in March, June and October. Participants must book the Discover session first before gaining access to the remaining sessions, which can then be completed in any order.

Useful Information

This is an interactive course and offers the opportunity to network with other new clerks from Councils across Northamptonshire to share best practice and ideas. 

This  course is suitable for new and aspiring clerks.

Discover

Building awareness of your council, the local government sector, and the key resources, networks and tools available to support you as a clerk.

Understand

Building a strong understanding of council structures, legal responsibilities, meetings, communications and the parish council year.

Deliver

Building the skills needed to manage council meetings, agendas, minutes and official records effectively.

Govern

Building confidence in council finances, compliance and transparency - for the knowledge and skills needed to support effective and accountable council governance.

Danny Moody, Chief Executive
Danny joined the Association in 2007. He has been a parish councillor since 2003 and has had various roles on committees and working parties as well as Chair to the council.  He achieved Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) in 2008 and is a Principal Member of the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC).  

Marie Reilly, Training Manager
Marie joined the Association in 2019. Prior to that, she has worked in Learning and Development since 2014. Marie has been a parish councillor since 2018 and has had various roles on committees and working parties as well as Vice Chair to the council. She achieved Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) in 2020 and is a recognised CiLCA Trainer to the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC).
